GEOFFREY MAY

CONSULTANT

Geoffrey (Geoff) May is a consultant in the Bray & Krais Private Client team. He qualified as a solicitor in 1996.  He has specialised in private client and tax since then, including for Thomas Eggar, Irwin Mitchell and Gateley PLC before joining Bray and Krais in May 2024.

Geoff advises UK and cross-border individuals, businesses, and trusts on:

  • wealth planning and structuring
  • wills
  • trust law and taxation
  • estate administration
  • tax and tax compliance obligations
  • residence, and domicile, including non-domiciliaries on remittance basis taxation
  • regulatory matters such as the UK Trust Registration Service and Overseas Entity Register.

He has particular experience in the interaction between the US and UK systems and between common law and civil law jurisdictions.

Geoff has been a full member of STEP since 2008 and a member of the Law Society of England and Wales Capital Taxes Sub-Committee since 2013, in which role he has been involved in several UK Government and HMRC consultations on private client and tax law reform, including on the taxation of non-domiciliaries and the trust registration service.

Geoff’s family background is in farming and horticulture and before becoming a lawyer, he graduated with a degree in horticulture. He still enjoys growing fruit, veg and flowers and looking after Cheeky and Skippy (alpacas), 10 pet sheep  as well as flocks of chickens, ducks and geese on a 3 acre smallholding on the Isle of Wight.
